Re: I need a vote of confidence!
Unless you're strapped for cash, I'd say watch it if you're at all interested. Tips for enjoyment. 1. Just accept you're in a completely different dimension than "prime" and watch 80% of your annoyances go away. 2. There are some plot contrivances early on that bothered me, but they actual...

Caught up on DSC...for maybe a week
I haven't wanted to do the CBS all access thing, but instead have been getting myself the DVDs for Christmas. When checking on the series getting renewed I realized season 3 isn't out just yet ( I was worried with all the forced emotion at the end of season 2 that they hadn't gotten picked up again)...

Just thinking about you guys since I'm on a cruise and I know we've got a few cruise aficionados and at least one cruise line employee.
Or ex employee. Sounds like Teaos has a lot going on!

Re: Deepest ever submarine dive
In our urge to set new records, I wonder if someone will go down in a submersible equipped with a shovel at some point.
On another note, I remembered the sub called Trieste.
I'd forgotten deep sea explorer Jacques Piccard .
Coincidence?

How had new Treks been received in the past?
While I had seen the odd TOS or TNG episode, my first Trek was Enterprise. I've seen a lot of negativity towards new incarnations of Trek, but what I'm wondering is how previous new Treks were welcomed, and I'm thinking some of the folks here were around for that. Maybe even being interested in cons...

Warhammer Animated series announced
https://www.gamerevolution.com/news/472245-warhammer-40k-animated-series-announced Not much information on it yet. What I find interesting is how differently GW is acting compared to its reputation (and how Paramount is treating fan works). I've been enjoying the helsreach animation on YouTube, and ...

Re: Why Aren't the Bajorans Super Advanced?
Bajor wasn't by any stretch a planet left to develop normally. It was instead the pet project of Prophets and Pah-wraiths. They could have had a range of reasons for stifling development, including not really understanding the concept of stifling development while waiting for "The Sisko" g...

Re: The Orville
I get the distinct impression that Seth really really wanted to be a Star Trek captain...and he's made it happen. Even if the show gets cancelled after one season, he's already won. So far it's been played much straighter than I expected but I'm interested in where it will go. And my wife was around...

Re: Rumours, news and general speculation
I can appreciate keeping the Delta. They're very much banking on the draw of the franchise, and the delta is it's recognizable symbol. They've been throwing variations of it in very prominently since they started showing promo materials. Beyond that, I'm finding myself wishing they'd just make their...

Re: Should sci fi ships use VLS?
Here's a question: why can't we consider 'Trek PT launchers to be a VLS system that just happens to be aligned with the axis of motion? The question isn't orientation, but whether the weapons can just have a hatch so that you can fire them all off rapidly or en-mass, or whether they need some appar...

Re: Should sci fi ships use VLS?
In space it doesn't particularly need to resemble a missile, though. Their having a frequency is, I always assumed, referring to the frequency of the shield around the torpedo. What shields, you say? From Half a Life : Geordi : "Torpedoes now entering the stellar core." Timicin : "Th...

Re: Should sci fi ships use VLS?
Since ST II, that went out the window and they are clearly physical missiles. They are a physical something, but it doesn't especially resemble a missile, and again they don't act like a mini shuttlecraft, notably in terms of passing through a ships shield. I also believe the "sustainer engine...

Re: Rumours, news and general speculation
Hurm. I believe there have been some comments about the new Trek pushing some social boundaries.
Having a transgender character would qualify, though I doubt that's the deal.
